we've heard president obama do that in past years in very real terms. we've learned things about him. last year we learned that he prays every day. he said he gets up in the morning, says a brief prayer and spends some time in scripture and devotion and obviously talking i think a lot in evangelical tones at the time you look at it in this event that, yes, it's not supposed to be a political event, but it was in an election year where a number of normally, i would say evangelical republican supporters had questions about mitt romney and you saw president obama maybe able to seize this moment, so i think sometimes it serves a political opportunity. sometimes it serves this sort of, serves as an opportunity for the president to reach out, and certainly at a time right now when he's dealing with some very divisive issues. >> they're doing a prayer, brianna for national leader, i want to dip into it. >> -- who have served this great nation, your world tells us of king david whose willingness to place his faith in you during difficult times serves as an exam

you've known him since you were 5 years old. he's been very supportive of president obama. critical, i think it's fair to say, but has he also moved on? or is the spouse always struggling? >> i think both made good points in terms of the spouse and the staff. i think that's understandable and true. but i think you have to go to president clinton's speech in charlotte, which i think was a pivotal moment in the obama re-election campaign. that was a powerful speech making the case for the president's re-election. so i think the answer is he's very proud of secretary clinton's tenure, of his wife's tenure as secretary of state. that comes through repeatedly. but i think he's very supportive and really in line with the president and much what he's trying to do in his second term, building on the first term. >> in that speech, he really did define -- >> he made the case. >> maybe he did and for democrats as well. i guess the dilemma for 2016 is who do you -- you're already laughing, and i haven't even said the question yet. >> just chuckling. not laughing. >> the rumor for 2016,

if you think about it, since the roosevelt/truman years, we've had five occasions when one party has held the white house for eight straight years, and in the next election, the out party has won four out of those five, only in one instance when ronald reagan was succeeded by george h.w. bush did the end party win a second time. that depends to some considerable extent on the performance. does this economy come back, does it remain anemic? what happens to jobs? i think the calculations are not as simple as it appears on the surface. and a little more time would perhaps give more clarity to our herat. >> is there anything from her record as secretary of state that could back to haunt her as a presidential candidate? >> i don't think so. the benghazi affair i think will long be forgotten unless there's some smoking gun we have no idea about. what will be chewed over, but a number of conservatives have now, like brit hume said her record of secretary of state is much less impressive than people are supposing but look at the public narrative, the public narrative, the public has basicall
